Rowing Club Notes September 21st 2010

Championship Regatta this weekend

This weekend sees the final regatta of the season with the holding of the National Rowing Championships for sculls, pairs, double sculls, fours and quads in the National Rowing Centre in Farran Wood, Cork. The Club has entered two Men's Junior 16 scullers, Paul Mannix and Simonas Drumsta; a Junior 15 Women's Quad of Eimear Ryan, Hilary Shinnick, Zoe Sohun and Rachel Morrison with Philip O'Flynn coxing; and two Men's Junior 15 quads of James O'Mahony, Shaun Connolly, Eoin Donnellan and Darragh O'Callaghan with Philip O'Flynn coxing and Adam Fisher, Emmett Dorgan, Luke and Ruairi Myers with Emma McEvoy coxing. As this is the last regatta of a very long season, coaches and crews are taking a well-deserved rest afterwards! This has been a relatively good season for the Club with numerous wins and victory in the National Junior Waterways League for the Women's Junior 14 Quad and the Men's Junior 14 Quad.

New Season

Fermoy Rowing Club is now planning the programme for the next season. At present we have a Women's Novice Eight in training under the watchful eyes of Graham Roche and Jonny Geary. The Club is also looking to recruit a Men's Novice crew for next season. If you are aged between 19 and 25 and have not previously rowed competitively, please contact our Captain Stephen Donnellan at the Clubhouse on Sunday mornings.

Votes of Sympathy

Members of Fermoy Rowing Club were shocked and saddened at the recent death of our friend Pat O'Hanlon. At the recent Committee meeting a vote of sympathy to Margaret and family was passed. Both Pat and Margaret have always been staunch supporters of our Monday night quiz and Pat will be deeply missed by all his friends in the Club.

A vote of sympathy was also passed on the recent death of Mrs Morrison. The Morrison Family has a long association with the Club down through the years and her husband Bill was a member of the Club in 1930's, '40's and '50's and other members of the family have kept up the tradition ever since.
