Fermoy Rowing Club Notes

A great turn-out for St Stephen's Morning

The Club hosted a very enjoyable annual at-home St Stephen's Morning Regatta with over one hundred past and present members taking part. The official race starter was Danny Higgins, assisted by Brian Shinnick. The umpire Jim Hackett was assisted by Paul Fisher.

The races were divided into six races for Eights and eight Quad races. Racing started at 10.30am and continued until 2.30pm, with all races very closely competed. Activities were very well organised by the Captain Stephen Donnellan.

In the Eights Final, the Captain's Crew of P. Mannix, P. Dunphy, J. McGrath, F. Donnellan (cox) S. Donnellan, P. Hickey, E. Harris-O'Sullivan, L. Rice and Tony O'Brien defeated the President's Crew by a quarter of a length in a thrilling race.

After the final the Christine King Trophy was presented by the Chairman Pa Granville.

Eight Quads took part in the at-home regatta and the Chairman's Crew of E Gormley, D Pyne, D Fisher and O Bradley defeated the Secretary's Crew.

The at-home regatta was enjoyed the sizeable crowd which gathered along Barnane Walk for the occasion. After the races finished there was a very enjoyable get-together in the Lounge, organised by the Ladies' Committee. Refreshments and live music ensured a very good evening for the Club.

Crews travel to Cork Boat Club

Fermoy crews were invited by Cork Boat Club to attend their annual Christmas Row-In in Wednesday the 28th of December. The trip was organised by Ray Connolly of Cork Boat Club and Fermoy's Captain Stephen Donnellan. All coaches travelled on the morning and the Club enjoyed a very worthwhile wok-out throughout the day, despite inclement weather conditions.

New Season

The Captain and coaches are now looking forward to the 2012 season, which starts at St Michael's Head of the River, which will take place at O'Brien's Bridge in County Clare on Saturday the 28th of January. Cork Head of the River follows in February with Fermoy Head of the River in March so it will be very busy for crews and coaches for the next number of months.
