This weekend Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of November 3 girls from the Club will travel to Newry time trials, the first of many enduirng tests of skill, ability, strength and dedication on the sport of rowing with the ultimate prize, the chance to represent your country at international level.
Fermoy's Hilary Shinnick, Zoe Sohun and Megan Blackburne, under the watchful eye of coach Ray Morrison, will travel to Newry this Friday to compete against some of the top rowers in Ireland. Over the past few years Fermoy has had many successes in Newry trials, in particular rising star Hilary Shinnick has impressed the Irish coaches time and time again. There are a number of elements to the weekend including 2 gruelling 5km time trials and many tests on the rowing machine.
All 3 girls have high hopes going into the trials and both the committee and coaches alike would like to wish both the three girls and Ray the very best of luck.
Success at the first head of the season!
On October 20, a handful of dedicated crews ventured to the National Roiwing Centre in Innisicarra to partake in the Skibbereen Head - the first competitive head of the season for Fermoy.
The club had a small selection of crews entered but none the less the coaches and oarspeople alive were happy with their performance over the 4km stretch. This was a great opportunity for the rowers to rank themselves against their counterparts from the other clubs.
The women's J18 double stroked by Hilary Shinnick and with Zoe Sohun in bow, had a fantastic win with a lead of over a minute on second place.
Fermoy also recorded 3 second places and 2 third place over the course of the day.
